I’m so excited to announce that I’m launching a collaborative wood shop in Downtown Los Angeles. I’ll bring talented woodworkers together around quality tools and shared knowledge. I’ll also partner with other LA based shops to offer monthly workshops to the general public. Through the workshops, I aim to build individuals’ skills and increase awareness of the craft.
The idea for the collaborative wood shop has been germinating in my head ever since I finished my year at College of the Redwoods. I came back to LA with a desire to join an established shop because I wanted access to experienced furniture makers and because I couldn’t afford to open my own shop. I looked for a year and half with no luck. The makers who I admired had small shops that didn’t have room for me, and the shops that could accommodate me were on the outskirts of LA and were geared toward cabinet making. I was lucky to eventually land at Offerman Wood Shop, where I’ve been for a couple of years. It’s been a great experience, but now I have the opportunity to give other furniture makers exactly what I was looking for when I first moved back to LA – a community of talented woodworkers and access to quality tools.
