Moving In

Yesterday was a big day for Off The Saw. We moved in the last of the big tools – the Davis & Wells bandsaw with 20″ resaw capacity and the 12″ Yates American jointer. We also rounded out our collection of Festool tools with the purchase of a Kapex, the best compound sliding miter saw on the market. Setting up the new shop space has really taken a whole community. Yesterday, Gabriel from GMC Machinery Movers moved the tools safely and quickly, Allied Crafts Building staff were on hand to direct traffic and ensure we got the tools into the building without a hitch and Charles and Jeff provided additional muscle. A big thank you to everyone who helped out.

Activity in the shop space has been non-stop for the last couple of weeks. We’ve upgraded the electrical, moved in all of the tools, purchased materials to build out the many tables and storage solutions we’ll need and commissioned Offerman Wood Shop to do a small production run of Acorn workbenches. It’s all in a week’s work.

The shop will launch on June 1, and we already have two talented furniture makers who will be moving in. Check back soon for profiles of the makers that will be working at Off The Saw.

The bandsaw didn't fit, so there was a little bit of hefting and heaving, but all of the tools are now in place!
